Our take on Earthquake!

We have seen it all; from a ten years long civil war, 2001 royal massacre, Abolition of monarchy for a free democratic country and to having no constitution till date and now to the massive Earthquake of 25th April.

Throughout this time, we have been guided by persistent optimism in future. The common goal and the common history we share as Nepalese have helped us unite, for getting over these national tragedies.

Reflecting back on the past one month, after the great earthquakes struck in Nepal, here we saw different people showing their humanitarian and patriotic responsibility, came forward to help. The neighbouring countries also joined hands to help in our difficult time. Despite all the glitches made towards the unplanned government procedures, its support cannot be curtained.

In this time different people came together to share their story of loss, sorrow, survival or heroism. Stories came from people of different background; but all uniting with a common ground; expectation of a better future.

In this moment I didn't had to travel far to find such a story, my walk to a nearby grocery shop made me come across a small girl who with her smile had hidden the pain and trauma she is suffering, due to the recent Earthquake.

My mother was trying to select the best Tomatoes from the whole pile; here the small girl also kept her hands to help. While this exchange the small girl had found many rotten tomatoes which she decided to throw, but then, her mother asked her to keep it safe aside for the night; to which the girl responded giving a satisfied gesture of having a tomato for today’s night. The child when asked of the class she studies, in her reply distracting from the question, she said that her school is nearby and will be opening soon. The girl’s satisfactory attitude and optimism in future made her smile throughout.

The family has been living in Tent since the massive earthquake occurred and has no plans to return home. As said by her mother, “there in ground we have friends who help us in our problem and their pondered love makes our sorrow null making us feel strong”. Defining the power of unity and love the story got an untold value.

This proves that, as a nation, we may be poor economically and politically, but the tradition of standing for each other with positive attitude, is the solution we take, for a better future.
